Ghana is looking set to become a member of the International Rugby Board (IRB) in the near future, so the future is looking bright for Ghanaian rugby fans!
The sport was first introduced in Ghana when the country was still an English colony, with many of the original players being in the military. The sport has come a long way since its male-dominated beginnings, with Ghana hosting the first ever North West Africa women’s Sevens tournament.
There is also quite a large Club Rugby entity in Ghana, with teams like Accra Warriors and Cape Coast RFC. Many of the national side’s players come from smaller teams like these.
